Helping Restaurants Survive

Experts believe that 40-70% of locally owned restaurants might not survive the summer, given the impact of the Coronavirus. What can BIDs and downtown organizations do to help restaurants survive? In the Minneapolis district of Dinkytown, adjacent to the University of Minnesota, a local program is using a three-pronged effort to help. First, with the help of students, a promotional campaign using the Dinkytown Business Alliance website publicizes restaurant hours, coupons, and special menus, as well as take-out and delivery services . Second, the students are working with the University’s PR office to get the word to local media. And third, students are producing a series of videos to post on social networking sites. Another project likely to get underway is a student-led outreach and research project. the proposed project involves the Humphrey School of Public Affairs, the Carlson School of Business Management, and the School of Social Work.
